We stayed in Costa Rica for a little over a week-
we flew into San Jose and picked up our rental car (a dusty, dented SUV
with many miles under the hood). We drove to Arenal National Park which
has an active volcano. The volcano stayed dormant while we were there
but we had a great rafting trip. We stayed in the Treehouse for
three days and then drove five hours to the Pacific coast where we
stayed the remainder of the trip in an area between Manuel Antonio and
Quepos. We had a "apartment" of sorts at Jungle Creek Lodge and we each had our own room and a washer & dryer as well as a pool. At the ocean we fished for three days and explored the National Park- Manuel Antonio. Bruce and Abby and Ben all reeled in one of the magnificent sailfish- and we released them to swim free. Our last day was spent driving back to the airport and we had a wonderful horseback ride on the beach followed by an airboat ride in Tarcoles through the river leading into Carara National Park. Costa Rica takes care of her land- we were given garbage bags by Policia as we left the airport- the driving was magnificent. Abby and Ben got to see leaf-cutter ants doing their thing, they saw endangered Scarlet Macaw, met croc up close, found a wild poison dart frog in the rainforest and really had a great time. armadillos appeared, sloths moved slowly through the trees and there were plenty of monkeys. Over the next few days I will be adding text to some of the photos- most are self explanatory but some require specifics such as this is a basilisk lizard, that is a sloth etc etc...
