WYOMING 2009- Dubois, Thermopolis & Cody

We flew into Jackson Hole and made our way north with a stop in a small town of Dubois, WY.  The people were friendly and the tourist attractions amusing.  Abby love the jackalope! We went to Thermopolis for the petroglyphs but discovered the Wyoming Dinosaur Center and Dean- a brilliant curator at the museum.

Giant Jackalope

Dean, a curator at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center & Dig site.  He gave us a behind the scenes
tour of the museum- it was like a dream come true for Bruce and myself. I even got a tiny dinosaur bone to take home (the kids weren't as thrilled with the big bones wrapped in plaster but they had fun). Dean has a neat website Palaeocritti which is worth a visit.

Suited up for the rapids

Our fearless leader 'Mango' guided us down the Shoshone River- it looks scary but it was a
pretty mellow ride. The kids LOVED every minute.

Myself, Kira and Skye- she is such a good baby girl!

Mom and Abby at Devil Canyon in the Pryor Mountain Horse Range/ Bighorn National Canyon
Recreational
Area. We went in search of the Pryor Mountain Mustangs -which we found a few
(they were featured on Cloud and Cloud's Legacy PBS Special). These horses are direct descendents
of the Spanish horses brought to Americas by Cortez and others in the 1500's...
DNA testing revealed their ancestry.
